Qld: Miner dies in colliery accident

A 40-year-old Queensland miner has died after being crushed by a machine in an underground
coal mine.

A spokesman for Mines and Energy Minister TONY MCGRADY says the man was working underground
at the Cook Colliery south of Blackwater, in central Queensland, around 9.30am (AEST)
when he was crushed against a rock face by a continuous miner.

The man suffered massive chest injuries and a heart attack before being brought to
the surface by a mine rescue team.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Ambulance Service says a doctor and ambulance personnel
worked on the man for over an hour but failed to revive him.

Mines inspectors are at the scene this afternoon and no further details are available.
