NSW: Tips for keeping children safe near swimming pools
Tips for keeping kids safe around the pool:
* Always supervise children near pools.
* Don't rely on swimming lessons or flotation devices to protect children from drowning.
* If distracted, take children out of the pool and lock them outside the fenced pool area.
* Obtain adult training in basic rescue, first aid and resuscitation techniques.
* Keep lifesaving equipment (a pole, ring or rope) in the pool area.
* Regularly check pool fences and gates.
* Never leave a pool gate open.
* Don't leave objects near the pool which could be used to climb over the fence.
* Don't allow children to play in the pool area.
* Place signage around the pool, such as "no diving", "no dunking", "no pushing", "no
running", as well as CPR instructions.
* Remove pool covers completely before use.
* Don't allow alcohol to be consumed by pool users.
* Keep glass and other breakables away from the pool area.
* Keep chemicals stored safely out of reach of children.
